COLUMBUS, Ga. – An 18-year-old father of two could face charges in the death of a six-week-old baby boy. Muscogee County Chief Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley tells News 3 the baby was found unresponsive Saturday afternoon around 1 p.m. The deputy coroner added that the father was taking a nap with his two-year-old and the baby.
Worley says the two-year-old somehow got on top of the baby. The father took the baby to St. Francis Hospital, where Worley officially pronounced the baby dead just after 1:30 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
Worley believes the death will most likely be ruled an accident or a natural death.
