Reaction from Highway 80 deadly car crash

PHENIX CITY, Ala. – A local church is stepping in to the help family members of the victims from Monday’s deadly crash on Highway 80.

The crash took the lives of five people, which included two children.

Paul Meacham, the Pastor of City Gate Church, was in shock when found out five people passed away in Monday’s car crash.

Paul said, “Sadness for the family and reflecting on the fragileness of life and how fragile each breath and each moment is and my first thought was how can we help and how can we assist.”

Amber Meacham, the Co-Pastor at City Gate Church, took matters into her own hands and started a GoFundMe and local bank account to help pay for their funerals.

“To help with funeral expenses any travel expenses that they might have and we’ve also established an account at CB&T which is a special funds account,” said Amber.

Paul feels it’s his responsibility to help those in times of need.

“I feel a direct responsibility to humanity as a whole whether this had been a church member or a stranger on the street. I’m the type of individual that feels like I want to not shun away from tragedy..I go towards tragedy to help,” said Paul.

The Meacham family sends their prayers to all who were affected by Monday’s crash.

Amber said, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, lean not to the understanding, but it all thine ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your path. If we can just trust in the Lord and not lean to our own understanding because we’re not going to understand.”

The church along with family members will hold a vigil in the next couple weeks to remember those who were lost and to thank the first responders who were on the scene.
