Auburn Tigers first to take the stage at SEC Media Days

Today marked Day 1 of SEC media days, and our home team auburn was the first to take part in the frenzy. Of course, the main topic of conversation was about the quarterbacks. Coach Gus Malzahn says all three guys can run the offense, the trick is just finding the right fit.

“We’ll define, who gives us the best chance of winning. and we’ll tweak that offense and really try to build around that qb’s strength. that’s what we’ve done in the past. so like i said, that’ll be our challenge to identify that guy earlier in fall camp rather than later,” he says.

While the players backed all three quarterbacks, they talked highly about the newcomer John Franklin. Defensive lineman, Montravius Adams says he’s dedicated…

“Anytime i see him anywhere, everywhere, he’s working. like when i go in the weight room, i work out at 6 clock, he working. i come back, he’s in there he’s working. he’s with the receivers. so right now i think he’s bringing leadership to the team,” he said.

Certainly a lot of moving parts, but the team is looking for stability. especially from Carl Lawson who is expected to return this season.

“The smile on my face says I’m healthy. But I cracked my hip earlier in the season and it’s healed up. But throughout the season i wasn’t 100%. I’m healthy now and that’s a blessing, Lawson says.
And having a leader like Lawson healthy is a bonus considering the team has a lot of returners from the defense.

“We’ve got experience in the back. like the db’s and all of that. i just feel like we’re such a close knit group. that anytime a man goes down or anytime a man goes out of the game, i just feel like the next person that steps up is just as good as the first person,” says Adams.

And they’re going to need all the help from the defense they can get this season. Because they arguably have one of the toughest schedules in the SEC this year.
