West Point Police identify teen murder suspect

WEST POINT, Ga — Police say their investigations into a 17-year-old’s murder Tuesday morning point to his brother as the likely suspect.

The West Point Police Department release says Carderius Harper is suspected of shooting his brother Juantae Harper. Juantae was found shot at around 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Oak Terrace Apartments at 700 Avenue E.

Officers and EMS say they tried to perform CPR on the teen, but he was unresponsive. Coroner Jeff Cook pronounced Juantae dead at the scene.

Investigators say they have spoken with Carderius and expect him to turn himself in Wednesday afternoon.

The GBI, Troup County Sheriff’s Office, LaGrange Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, and West Point Police Department all contributed to this investigation.
