AUBURN, Ala.- The Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office says Mondays fire at Lowder Hall at Auburn University was most likely electrical and orginated from a light and ballast on the first floor of the building.
Auburn’s Interim Executive Director of Public Safety and Security, Chance Corbett says they do not believe it is anything other than the light at this point.
Corbett says the university has a fantastic facilities management department and other professionals that make sure all buildings are safe. Corbett says if they identify an issue, they will make sure it never happens again.
“Campus safety is a priority,” Corbett said. “As always, we want to make sure everything we do is safe including construction of buildings. We have some older buildings. We have some newer buildings. All new construction meets a certain standard, which is always better than it was last time. In this case, when we build this building back or construct the areas that were damaged, it’s going to meet the highest specifications it can for safety.”
Corbett added the building will be closed for the rest of the summer, and they hope to have part if not all open for the fall.
