Georgia and Alabama involved in Volkswagon settlement over emission tests

Georgia and Alabama are among the coalition of 43 states who brought claims against Volkswagon accusing the automaker of cheating on emissions tests.

Volkswagen is going to pay up to $15.3 billion to settle consumer lawsuits. Up to $10 billion will go to 475,000 owners of Volkswagens or diesel Audis who thought they were buying high-performance, environmentally-friendly cars. They later found that the emissions from those cars were vastly higher than allowed under U.S. pollution laws. Volkswagen agreed to either buy back or repair the vehicles, although it hasn’t yet developed a fix for the problem.

Included in this settlement are more than 17,000 Volkswagen owners in Georgia and more than 4,300  in Alabama.

To find out if your vehicle is included in the settlement you can go to and enter your VIN number.
