Pursuit ends just west of Phenix City

RUSSELL/LEE COUNTY, Ala. – The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirms to News 3 that a pursuit has ended west of Phenix City Friday afternoon.

ALEA says one of their troopers tried to stop a 2007 Dodge Charger for speeding (97 mph in a 65 mph zone) on US 280 near Lee Road 158 when a pursuit ensued.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office deployed spike strips on US 280 to stop the vehicle. The driver Frederrius Jones drove the vehicle off the roadway, exited the vehicle and the proceeded to run on foot.

The pursuit ended on US 280 at the 118 mile marker about a half mile from Phenix City.

Jones suffered minor injuries, but is now booked in the Lee County Detention Facility. Lee and Russell County Sheriff Departments assisted with the pursuit.
