Two crashes in Alabama, Georgia claim the lives of two men

Two men are dead after car collisions Friday night and early Saturday morning. The first involves an Opelika man, who officials say was killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday in Russell County.

Alabama State troopers say the crash happened on U.S. 80 at Mile Marker 198, about three miles west of Crawford. They say Monta Hawkins was killed instantly when his 1997 Honda Accord hit a 2012 Toyota Camry.

Troopers found that Hawkins, 40, was not wearing a seat belt during the crash. An initial investigation indicates alcohol may have been a factor.

Meanwhile, Columbus Police are investigating a Milgen Road crash that happened early Saturday morning around 3:30. Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley says the crash happened near Miller Road and Woodruff Farm Road.

Worley says Jodie Devorce died from blunt force trauma to the chest, neck and head. Devorce, 23, is due for a toxicology report. The deputy coroner expects the results from the report in the next several weeks to determine whether alcohol might have played a role in that crash.
