CVCC receives $5,000 scholarship from Winn Dixie and Foy’s Bar-B-Que Sauce

PHENIX CITY, Ala- The fall semester will be a bit easier for some local community college students thanks to the generosity of local business leaders and their customers.

Winn-Dixie of Ladonia and its parent company Southeastern Grocers presented $5,000 in scholarship funds to Chattahoochee Valley Community College. That money will help local students who plan to attend the college beginning in the fall.

The scholarship money was raised when Winn Dixie partnered with locally-made Foy’s Bar-B-Que Sauce.  Customers received discounts on Foy’s and other grocery items, and the savings rolled into the scholarship fund.

“It means a lot to me,” says Raven Rivers, a student who plans to attend CVCC this fall.  “People always look out for students to become the future. I’m glad someone has taken an interest in me.”

Mayor Eddie Lowe joined Winn-Dixie Regional Vice President Drew Elkins to present CVCC with the scholarship funds. CVCC appreciates the gift and says that when local students are successful, our community benefits.
