Barbaree to face Lowe in mayor race

PHENIX CITY, Ala. – Jerry Barbaree is throwing his name into the ring for mayor of Phenix City.  He will face incumbent Eddie Lowe who will be running for a second term.

Lowe beat out three other candidates in 2012 to become Phenix City’s first black mayor.

Barbaree, a Phenix City native, formally made his announcement Monday evening at the Central Activities Center.

“When you grow up somewhere and you can go back like this school right here.  I mean I can remember sitting in assembly in this room right here so, I think that you develop a love for the people,” Barbaree said.

Lowe tells News 3 he will make his official announcement that he is running for re-election in the next few weeks.  The election is set for August 23rd.
