COLUMBUS, Ga. – More than 38 million drivers are expected to hit the highways this holiday weekend. AAA says this would be the highest number of drivers on the road since 2005.
According to AAA, one of the main reasons for this expected record number of drivers is low gas prices. Mark McDonough with Georgia’s Department of Public Safety reminds drivers to give room to the car in front of them.
“To and from the lake, to and from the ocean, let’s make sure we’re belted up and be courteous. We all get in a rush and where do we try to make it up? On the roadway. We do,” McDonough said.
He also encourages drivers to let the person in that’s trying to merge instead of squeezing them out.
AAA says the national average for the cost of gas is 46 cents lower than it was a year ago.
