COLUMBUS, Ga. – This current election period has been dramatic to say the least. Even the the Director of Elections & Registration here in the Chattahoochee Valley calls it a strange cycle.
Nancy Boren has been on the job for twenty years. Boren tells News 3 there’s never been an election cycle quite like this.
“We’ve had a deceased candidate, we’ve had on a federal level a withdrawn candidate, deceased, withdrawn and now disqualified…all in this election..it’s not just in the local election…It’s just unusual an unusual election,” says Boren.
As News 3 reported several Muscogee County Sheriff’s candidates were disqualified, but then several reinstated. Also, 40-year-old congressional candidate Bobby Scott unexpectedly died. Then to top it all off Boren says James Knox withdrew from the senate race.
Looking ahead to tomorrow’s election day Boren says she is expecting a runoff. She has been working in this job for 2 decades and says there’s always been a runoff.
