COLUMBUS, Ga. – Muscogee County officials say a baby died Saturday night after drowning in a bathtub at a Columbus home.
Muscogee County Chief Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley tells News 3 he pronounced the 9-month-old dead shortly after 9:30 p.m. at the Midtown Medical Center Pediatric Emergency Room. The incident originally happened at a home on Gazebo Way.
A coroner’s report says the mother claims she fell asleep and was not with the baby when the drowning happened.
The baby will head to Atlanta for a medical examination. Worley says the cause of death is drowning, pending the autopsy.
So far, no charges have been filed in this case.
