COLUMBUS, Ga. – Columbus Police have confirmed to News 3 that an officer shot and killed a dog while chasing a suspect Tuesday afternoon.
Police say two officers chased the suspect into the backyard of a home on Booker Avenue where two dogs were being kept. They say the first officer made it out of the backyard unharmed, but they say one of the dogs charged at the second officer. That is when we are told the officer shot and killed the dog.
Police would not say why they were chasing the suspect, but we are told he was arrested.
This case has now been turned over to the Office of Professional Standards since it involves an animal.
