Generation of Muscogee County teens raised on porn?

Columbus, GA — Local woman Laura Byard is a on a fierce mission. She has devoted her life’s work to stamping out what she calls an epidemic of our kids being raised with intense sexual content.

Byard is the “Right from the Start” director which is an organization focused on healthy relationships.

Recent survey results from Muscogee County teens on various social media topics are not exactly showing healthy results. In fact Byard says they are hard to look at. It’s these shocking stats that Byard draws her strength from every day to continue the fight against the sexual exploitation of our teen’s minds and hearts.

Byard says more than half of the Muscogee County middle schoolers surveyed admitted to playing the game Grand Theft Auto. She says GTA is an an extremely violent and sexual game. She says this pornographic material our young men are being exposed to is causing glitches in their brain’s development. She says we are now paying the price for this and seeing more sexually aggressive boys and men than any generation before. As a result our young women are being bullied by these men.

“Absolutely I would say this is a crisis in our community that is not being addressed. Not being spoken about I think we kind of realize that there is maybe a problem and we need to do it about and not really sure and how to do anything,” says Byard.

Byard is not alone in her mission to stamp out this epidemic in our community. She is working with the Columbus Police Department, a coalition that works to stop sex trafficking and the Muscogee County School system.

Here are some basic parental protection measures Laura Byard suggests parents start implementing today:

1. No social media under the age of 16. She says social media has even been linked to causing anxiety in children and teens.
2. Find an another way to communicate with your kid besides a cell phone. She say a smart watch can be a great way to talk to your kid without them calling out.
3. Keep tablets, computers, and phones in a common area because she says most porn dabbling happens during homework time.
4. No cell phones an hour before bad because she says nothing good happens on social media after dark.
5. Many local Internet providers offer safeguard options parents should have installed.
