(VIDEO COURTESY: EUCOM) The Pentagon is apparently concerned over two close encounters between a U.S. destroyer and Russian fighter jets over international waters. According to initial reports, the fighter jets performed extremely close-over flight Tuesday night while the U.S.S. Donald Cook sailed in the Baltic Sea.
A U.S. Pentagon official says at the time, the destroyer had a Polish helicopter on board, and the helicopter’s flight operations were interrupted because one of the flyovers was so close. The official says some believe the Russians pulled the moves to send a “message to Poland.”
The Pentagon is supposedly discussing whether to release video and photos of the incident to show the danger the jets posed to the ship.
