Police: Braves OF Olivera arrested, accused of assault

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — Police say they have arrested Atlanta Braves outfielder Hector Olivera after a woman accused him of assault at a hotel outside Washington.

Arlington Police spokeswoman Ashley Savage says police were called just before 7 AM Wednesday to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Pentagon City. Savage says a woman with visible bruises reported that Olivera had assaulted her.

Police arrested Olivera. The woman was taken to a hospital. Savage says Olivera and the woman are acquainted.

Olivera was formally charged with assault and battery. His bond is set at $10,000.

The 31-year-old Olivera joined the Braves last year. He spent the early part of his career in Cuba before defecting. The Braves are in Washington for a series against the Nationals.
