Man in jail, connection to Wal-Mart worker’s murder

LILBURN, Ga (AP) — Authorities say a man has been arrested in the death of a security guard who was fatally shot outside a metro Atlanta Wal-Mart.

Lilburn police say in a statement Tuesday that 37-year-old Boaz Anthony Fordyce is charged with murder, aggravated assault and theft by shoplifting in the death of 25-year-old Jaseramie Dion “JD” Ferguson.

Ferguson was shot Sunday night when he and another guard approached a man who was attempting to steal three televisions from the Lilburn store.

Police released a photo of the suspect from surveillance video. Authorities say Fordyce was found in unincorporated DeKalb County.

Ferguson was a husband and father of three. His widow Tiana Ferguson says she is “numb” at the idea that her husband will never come home.

Gwinnett County jail records say Fordyce is being held without bond. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
