AL legislator tables proposal to tie teacher salaries to students’ grades

An Alabama legislator is tabling his proposed bill that would tie a large chunk of teacher evaluations and their salaries to student grades.

Tuesday, Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh said resistance from education groups prompted him to reconsider his proposal. Marsh proposed tying at least 25% of public teachers’ evaluations to student test scores.

Those evaluations would then be used to determine if teachers receive raises.
