PHENIX CITY, Ala. – A construction project is underway on a major road in Phenix City. Construction crews are working on 1.9 miles of Crawford Road.
The construction starts at Whitewater Ave. and ends at the 280 Bypass intersection. Crews are repaving the roadway, improving traffic lights, and replacing curbs and gutters.
Phenix City City Manager Wallace Hunter says they have been planning this project for the past two to three years. He asks that drivers be patient during the construction process.
“We’re going to have a beautiful road in our city in the near future so, we just ask that they be patient and understanding with us while we do this road constructions because we’re trying to upgrade our city throughout,” Hunter said.
He says they will not have complete lane closures on either side of the road over the next few months. The total cost of the project is $2.3 million. The city is funding 20 percent of the project and the state is funding the rest.
The project is expected to be complete in September.
