AUBURN, Ala.- Currently, Auburn has a local preference zone in place. This is used when the city needs to purchase goods and services.
They have the option to choose a local vendor who is no greater than 5% from the lowest responsible bidder.
Now, that zone extends from Auburn to Opelika, Smiths Station and other portions of Lee County.
Auburn Finance Director Penny Smith says this expansion gives the city more flexibility. “When looking out to our area, our local vendors can be more competitive with what might be a larger conglomerate that may bid for us from outside of our area so it gives them an opportunity to be more competitive with some of the larger vendors outside,” Smith said.
