COLUMBUS, Ga — 2nd Avenue is blocked off from 29th Street to 32nd Street for maintenance on the city’s water mains.
A release by Columbus Water Works says “work will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 5 and 6, 2016 on the project for rehabilitation of water mains on 2nd Avenue.”
The release says workers will be cleaning and relining aging distribution pipes to prevent expensive and disruptive main breaks. The pipes have been use for 100 years, since 1916.
All traffic will be routed to the middle travel lane of southbound 2nd Avenue from 29th Street to 32nd Street. The lane will be closed between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM while workers are there.
Police say they will be directing traffic at the 32nd Street intersection. Security barriers and signage will be in place to ensure the safety of pedestrians and reduce the disruption of the traffic flow.
The release says the work is expected to be finished by Friday, April 8th.
