No more “White Goods” Tags needed in Auburn

AUBURN, Ala.- Tuesday night, Auburn City Council voted to change the language in a city code, which will now eliminate the need for “White Goods” tags in order to get rid of an appliance with garbage pickup.

Effective immediately, Auburn residents will be able to place their appliances at the curb to be picked up with their garbage without purchasing a “White Goods” tag.

Penny Smith, Auburn’s Finance Director says the old process did not bring in much revenue to the city, instead it brought problems to residents and the city. She said there would be questions as to where the tags would go and the tags occasionally fall off. Smith says the new process is more efficient.

The city does urge residents to call 334-501-3080 to let them know how many items they would be dropping off including their regular garbage to see if any fees are warranted.
