We’ll get a break from the wind and rain for this weekend’s outdoor events.
Bring a blanket or chair and watch Inside Out Friday at 7:00 p.m. est or Jurassic World Saturday at 7:00 p.m. EST for free on a 50-foot screen on Mountain Creek Inn’s Lawn at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain.
Or watch teams of five race a bed on wheels 150 yards in Uptown Columbus at the VIP Bed Race 2016 Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. est.
If you’re looking for a challenging running course over sand, clay and gravel – The Russell Forest Run 5K and 10K is early Saturday morning in Alexander City, Alabama.
And if that’s not enough running, you can run to help raise funds to build a church in Nicaragua at the Build a Church Mission 5K Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. est at Grace Baptist Church.
This weekend’s highlighted event is February Work Day where volunteers can come out to clean up Pine Mountain Trail in FDR State Park Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. est. Those interested should meet at the park office.
Jim Pound is the president of the Pine Mountain Trail Association. He says the trail is fully maintained by volunteers.
“We’re encouraging everyone to come out. Children can come out and work with us. Adults. Average age of our volunteers is in the 60s or so, so we really want some of the younger people to come out and join us. It’s fun. We have something for everyone to do,” says Pound.
Work Days are once a month and have been going on since the trail was created in 1975.
