OPELIKA, Ala.- Close to 200 people gathered at the Saugahatchee Country Club for Opelika’s State of the City.
Mayor Gary Fuller said the city created 368 manufacturing jobs in 2015.
The unemployment rate was at 4.5% percent for the year. The city set an all time record with more than $192 million in building permits. The city also earned $27.2 million in sales tax, $3.1 million in property tax. The city also did $1.1 million worth of resurfacing in the year and completed many infrastructure projects.
Mayor Fuller said these numbers are fantastic, but he cannot wait to build on them. “I can only imagine where we’ll be 5, 10, 20 years from now with the fiber, the sportsplex, with the great schools, these great new subdivisions with all the industry and new jobs,” Mayor Fuller said. “I’m very positive about our future and where we will be long-term.”
The Mayor also added that the city did $83 million in capital investment industrial projects.
