UPDATE: Two arrests have been made in connection to the Lee County deadly home invasion Tuesday morning.
20-year-old Davonte Mike of Opelika and 20-year-old Robert Wiggins of Columbus have been arrested and charged with Capital Murder.
Mike is being held in the Lee County Detention Center without bond and Wiggins is currently a patient at East Alabama Medical Center under watch from deputies and will be transported to the Lee County Detention Center when he is released from the hospital.
Earlier that same evening deputies responded to a burglary on Lee Road 390 in the same vicinity of the Rudd residence. The elderly woman stated she heard noises at her door and when she went to the door a suspect kicked the door in and came into her home. She struck the intruder with her walking stick several times and the suspect left the scene. The woman describes the intruder as a tall, thin black male. This crime is being investigated in conjunction with the home invasion that occurred four and half hours later.
More arrests are likely and the case is still under investigation.
UPDATE: Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones says they have a development in the deadly home invasion case. A news conference is scheduled for 10:30 CT Thursday, where Sheriff Jones plans to share the update.

CUSSETA, Ala. – One person is dead following a home invasion Tuesday morning at a residence in the 3400 block of Lee Road 177.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office the homeowner, 85-year-old Curtis Rudd had been shot multiple times and was discovered lying on the floor.
Rudd was transported to the East Alabama Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
Rudd’s wife says they were awakened by a noise at their front door which resulted in the door being forced opened.
Two men wearing ski masks and armed with a handgun entered into their house and immediately fired multiple shots at them. Gunfire was exchanged by the suspects and Rudd and the suspects fled the residence. The victim’s wife was not injured in this incident.
A person showed up at the emergency room with a gunshot wound and has been identified as a person of interest and has been taken to surgery.
