The city of Columbus is alerting people of a couple of a road closure starting Monday, January 18.
According to traffic engineering manager Doc Dorsey, the eastbound lane of Double Churches Road between Fortson Road and Veterans Parkway will be closed for construction work. Workers are involved in improving conditions at the Double Churches/Veterans Pkwy intersection. Dorsey expects that portion of Double Churches Road to remain closed for approximately one month.
Fortson Road northbound will serve as a detour route for cars traveling eastbound. The detour stretches to Williams Road eastbound and Veterans Pkwy westbound.
Dorsey says traffic flowing westbound on Double Churches rd. will not be detoured. Normal left and right turns will proceed as normal, as well as vehicles continuing straight from the westbound ramp of J.R. Allen Parkway. The traffic engineering manager also says signal timing at the affected intersections will change according to additional traffic volume on the detour route.
Dorsey adds that starting at 9:00 a.m. Monday, the intersection of Whittlesey Road and Bradley Park Drive will be closed to all traffic. The closure will allow for the Whittlesey Road contractor to adjust the pavement height at the intersection. The intersection is expected to be re-opened to traffic on Thursday, January 21.
A signed detour route will be established along Whitesville Road and Veterans Parkway. This is the same detour route that was used for previous closures related to the Whittlesey Road project. Whittlesey Road and Bradley Park Drive will remain open to local traffic on all sides of the intersection.
