COLUMBUS, Ga. – Police have made arrests in the December 16 shooting at the Riverwind Apartments where one man was killed and another injured.
20-year-old Jaleel Merritt and 19-year-old Jacorion Gary were arrested and charged with one count of murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and two counts of criminal attempt armed robbery.
Also arrested was 25-year-old Darecco Merritt. He was charged with hindering the apprehension of fugitives.
After an investigation, police say the cause of the shooting was from an attempted armed robbery.
As News 3 has reported, 22-year-old Darwyn Taylor was pronounced dead back on December 16 outside the apartments on Riverland Drive. A 24-year-old man was shot and injured, but he has since been released from the hospital.
Police say they are seeking more suspects in the connection to the case. Neither Merritt nor Gary testified in court Friday.
