The College Football Playoff National Championship featuring the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Clemson Tigers have one sports store eager to take advantage of customers looking to celebrate after the game.
Academy Sports and Outdoors store manager Matt Brown describes fans feeling excited and full of adrenaline. He says people tend to procrastinate and buy sports gear of the favorite teams right before big games. Academy locations all across Alabama plan to open up right after the national championship game. They would sell exclusive clothing and other items that claim Alabama as national champions. But that’s contingent on Alabama managing to beat the No. 1 ranked team in the country: Clemson.
“If Alabama wins, obviously we will roll it out,” Brown said. “We will reopen the store immediately after the win.”
He expects the store to stay open until crowds start dying down.
Alabama is vying for their 16th national title. Clemson is searching for their first title since the 1980’s.
