The victim in Monday morning’s shooting on Valley Road has been identified.
34-year-old Edward Kirkland died after being shot in the chest, according to the Muscogee County Coroner’s office.

LATEST: COLUMBUS, Ga.- Columbus police are still looking into a deadly shooting they say happened at a Columbus home this morning.
News 3 was the first on the scene at 4011 Valley Road. The small home is within walking distance of Columbus State University.
According to Columbus Police they say the man who was shot was rushed to Midtown Medical Center where he died several hours later.
Another man on the scene, Anthony Shumpert, says his daughter was involved in this morning’s incident. He tells News 3 he is frustrated on how slow details are emerging, but grateful his daughter is alive and well.
“As you can see the house is in a sort of secluded place… so this time of the year it would probably be an ideal spot for activities to take place,” says Shumpert.
A man on the scene tells the media he was involved in the situation too and tells us it was a home invasion. However, Columbus Police have not confirmed that information.
UPDATE: The person shot this morning off of Valley Road that was rushed to Midtown Medical Center has just passed away. This according to officials with the Columbus Police Department.
COLUMBUS, Ga.- WRBL was first on the scene of a shooting that happened in the 4000 block of Valley Road.
News 3 has confirmed one male was taken to Midtown Medical Center with injuries.
