(MEDIA GENERAL) – Serial fans, rejoice! The ultra-popular podcast’s second season is available!
Almost a year after the first season’s final episode was released, the podcast is back with another story to tell, this one also full of twists and turns – the story of U.S. Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl.
The podcast became a sensation in 2014 with its detailed reporting and storytelling of a Baltimore murder case. Even though the first season ended in 2014, Serial still was one of the top 10 most downloaded podcasts of 2015, according to Apple.
The podcast, hosted by Sarah Koenig, is created by Ira Glass and the team behind NPR’s “This American Life.” The podcast is released in “chapters,” and follows Koenig’s journey to uncover the truth behind the story.
Unraveling Bergdahl’s story in Season Two had been rumored as Serial’s target prior to its announcement, according to several media reports. Bergdahl received international attention when the American POW was released after being a prisoner of the Taliban for more than four years. However, shortly after news broke of his release, soldiers from his unit labeled him a deserter, not an American hero. Bergdahl now faces two charges after an Army investigation.
His story being told through Serial will be the first time he has spoken to the press.
