RUSSELL COUNTY, Ala. – Agencies across the valley came together to round up sex offenders.
In a news conference Thursday, Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor said 173 sex offenders were verified during the round up.
During the round up, 10 warrants were issued and 11 people arrested. Multiple agencies came together to make this happen. Sheriff Taylor says keeping up where sex offenders live is a big responsibility and it’s often difficult.
“These sex offenders, historically, you know, want to move and not tell us where they’re going and it’s these guys responsibility, our responsibility to make sure we keep up with it.” Says Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor.
Officials say about 25% of sex offenders don’t comply to the rules of registration.
