Here’s a look at what’s going on in this weekend’s outdoor events!
You can take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, buy some sweet treats and enjoy extended shop hours in downtown Opelika from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. CST Friday at Christmas in Railroad Town.
Or Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. CST, see Opelika’s Annual Tree Lighting on the corner of 8th Street and 2nd Avenue.
If you’d rather take a stroll on a lighted tour – the normally self-directed driving Victorian Front Porch Christmas Tour will be a walking tour Saturday night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. CST.
Santa will be around all weekend in Auburn – he’ll be at Toomer’s Corner from noon to 4:00 p.m. CST in downtown Auburn Saturday and Sunday.
This weekend’s highlighted event is Big Dog Running Company’s Pancake Run – where runners can come out for free early Saturday morning at 6 a.m. EST. They can run three to five miles and even more and end up here after the run for pancakes at Big Dog Running Company.
Patrice Riley is the manager at Big Dig Running Company in Uptown Columbus. She helps lead the pancake runs every Saturday morning.
“We want to encourage people to come out and run. So for a lot of people, running can be a solitary sport, but when you run with a group it’s a whole different feeling and we want to cultivate that community, family feeling by having these runs.”
Riley adds that anyone can come out – walkers, joggers and runners are all welcome.
