LAGRANGE, Ga. – The square in downtown LaGrange was full of people sleeping in cardboard boxes this weekend.
The Troup County Homeless Coalition hosted the “Night Without a Roof” event.
They encouraged everyone to spend the night sleeping in a cardboard box.
Dozens of people came out to support the event.
Organizers hope people who participate help others understand what it means to be homeless.
Denna’ Muncey with the Troup County Homeless Coalition says, “Homeless is not in my back yard, it is in my back yard, and instead of ignoring it, if you were to reach out and acknowledge that this individuals do exist, they are here and they are a part of my community and they need our help.”
A christian band played music for much of the evening.
The coalition provided a soup dinner and essential items like a can opener and socks.
