Local college gives back to community

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Volunteers from Virginia College in Columbus gave a helping hand in the community Friday.  Volunteers partnered with the local Habitat for Humanity to help build a house.

Volunteers mostly helped by laying down sod in the yard.  Scott Cannon with Habitat for Humanity said they couldn’t have accomplished all of the work they did on Friday without the help from the volunteers.

“We had a good time today.  They helped out tremendously.  We was laughing and cutting up and they actually did a very good job not having laid sod before,” Cannon said.

Virginia College in Columbus was just on of 72 campuses volunteering in Education Corporation of America’s national Community Service Day.  Cannon said they hope to have the house ready by Thanksgiving.

More than 5,300 employees across Education Corporation of America spent the day giving back in the company wide Community Service Day.
