Lab tests confirm rabies case in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ga. – There is a case of rabies in Columbus.

This week, a raccoon attacked a person near the Reese Road and Lamore Street areas.

Lab tests now confirm the raccoon has rabies.

There are warnings, from the Columbus Health Department, if you live in the area.

Have all of your dogs and cats vaccinated against rabies. Do not pick up or handle any stray dog or cat, or any wild animals.

Report any animal bites and/or scratches.

Contact Animal Control to report animals behaving strangely or aggressively.

Teach children about the dangers of stray and wild animals.

Health officials are distributing flyers to the residents in the area.
