LEE COUNTY, Ala. – Lee County Sheriff’s Office have arrested twenty year old Jacob Browning for attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
Officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home on Lee Road 2045 in Opelika Thursday evening. Approximately 16 minutes later officers responded to a second call from the same home.
When the officer pulled up authorities say Browning came out the front door and fired multiple rounds from a handgun into the front windshield on the deputy’s patrol vehicle.
The deputy was able to exit his vehicle and took a position of cover and prepared to return fire as Browning ran back into the home.
Browning exited the home a few minutes later with his hands in the air and surrendered without further incident.
Browning’s mother and girlfriend both suffered minor injuries from the assault before the deputy’s arrival.
The deputy was not injured as well.
Investigators recovered a 9mm handgun and multiple spent casings at the scene.
Browning is currently being held in the Lee County Detention Facility with a bond set to $337,000.
