COLUMBUS, Ga.- News 3 has learned that Suzanne Huffman, a Columbus Police officer, Columbus State Student and mother lost her life Saturday after she fell 30 feet on a trail in Walker County.
Those who knew Huffman say she was very enthusiastic about the outdoors. Dan Gilbert, the president of Whitewater Express says Huffman would come to the location all the time to volunteer and learn about whitewater. Gilbert also said Huffman took a course at Columbus State on whitewater rafting and Huffman “checked out” on the river two weeks ago; meaning she went through the course, fulfilled all the requirements and went out on the river with one of the trip leaders and took customers out on the river and the customers gave her thumbs up across the board.
Gilbert said of Huffman’s passing, “Well, it’s such a shock. Anytime a young person has had a tragic accident like this, it’s shocking and I think that’s the way our staff is taking it today. We have a young staff and they’ve been talking about it all day. And, everybody is shocked and saddened.”
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help Huffman’s sons.
