Weekend Events: October 9th – October 11th

Finally the sun is back and just in time for this weekend’s outdoor events!

The 6th Annual Oktoberfest is Saturday evening from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. CDT in the north parking lot of the Hotel at Auburn University.

Another festival is just about an hour south in Eufaula. The Indian Summer Fest is Saturday and Sunday. Expect live music, kid’s activities, and even tempt your taste buds at the BBQ Sauce Contest.

The Tuskegee Morehouse Classic is this Saturday in Uptown Columbus. The parade begins at 9:00 a.m. EDT and the 80th meeting of the legacy game kicks off at 2 p.m.

If you can’t wait until Halloween for a spooky night – you can catch a ride on the zombie zip line in Columbus Thursdays through Sundays starting at 8:00 p.m. EDT.

Or if haunted houses are more up your ally, get ready to jump out of your shoes.  The 3rd Annual Quarantine Haunted Theme Park scares from 7:00 p.m. till 3:00 a.m. EDT on Thursdays through Sundays.

This weekend’s highlighted event is the Georgia Bikefest hosted by Bicycle Ride Across Georgia. Fellow cyclists come together to ride anywhere from a few miles to 100 through Harris, Muscogee and Chattahoochee Counties – all starting and ending in Columbus all weekend long. Registered participants can also camp and relax along the Chattahoochee River – just one block from Uptown Columbus.

Franklin Johnson is the Executive Director of the non-profit organization BRAG.

He says, “Georgia Bikefest is an offshoot of the Bicycle Ride Across Georgia. It gives people a chance to get a taste of what the bike ride across Georgia is like. If they want to come out, camp for the night, ride, see if they can actually do that sort of mileage. And it’s just a good way to get out, exercise and get healthy.”
