(CBS NEWS) – U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone, one of the three Americans who helped thwart a terror attack on a European train over the summer, was repeatedly stabbed in California Wednesday night, the Air Force confirmed to CBS News.

The Air Force said Thursday morning that Stone was being treated for injuries at a hospital and was in stable condition.

The Air Force said police were investigating the incident.

Alek Skarlatos, who together with Stone and their friend Anthony Sadler overpowered a gunman on a train in France, posted a tweet in support of Stone Thursday.
