Alabama students among four charged in rape of unconscious woman

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — Tuscaloosa Homicide Investigators were called to the 5500 block of Old Montgomery Highway around 10 a.m. Tuesday morning in reference to a sexual assault.

When investigators arrived, the victim was unresponsive in an apartment.

Witnesses told investigators that the victim was knowingly drinking a beverage with a controlled substance in it, and later passed out in the bedroom of Donald King, 20.

The victim was at a gathering at the Tuscaloosa apartment complex Boardwalk at Brittain Landing on Monday evening. She and the party-goers were drinking and passing around a fruit punch laced with Xanax. Witnesses say the victim knowingly drank the controlled substance and eventually passed out.  That was when the alleged rapes took place.

Witnesses also stated that King and three others, Eddie Harris Jr., 19, Fredrick Shaw, 18, and DeAndre Dussett, 25, all had sex with the victim while she was unconscious.

Investigators tell WIAT 42 that three of the four suspects in this case are University of Alabama students: Donald King, Eddie Harris Junior, and Fredrick Shaw. The fourth suspect is De’Andre Dussett. The victim is a 22-year-old female student at Shelton State.

Investigators located and interviewed the alleged perpetrators of the assault. The suspects all admitted to having sex with the victim.

Witnesses later discovered the victim, still unconscious in King’s bedroom. They took the victim to DCH Medical Center and law enforcement was informed. Police say the victim remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspects were each charged with rape in the first degree and booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail. Bond for each is set at $30,000. Dussett was also charged with possession of a controlled substance with an additional $10,000 bond. He may possibly be charged further by the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force at a later date.
