The Marion County Eagles are flying high following their big win this past Friday night over region foe Dooly County. The win earned the Eagles the title of headquarter Nissan Athletes of the Week.
Their latest victim: the Dooly County Bobcats who were limited by Marion County stand-outs Maurice Carter and Hayden Gray on defense while Mykelle Kelley rushed for over 100 yards on just 13 carries and team leader Lorenzo Smothers had not one but two long punt returns for touchdowns.
Smothers and Gray say the team is coming together.
“We kind of came out on fire on them. They scored. But, we came through adversity. That’s what makes us a good team this year, we play through adversity,” said Smothers.
Now the Eagles are practicing hard this week in preparation for a Thursday night clash against the rejuvenated and undefeated Columbus High Blue Devils.
“We’ve got to go over there on a Thursday. We’ve never played on a Thursday since I’ve been the coach. It’s going to be a tremendous challenge. I think our kids are looking forward to it,” said head coach Mike Swaney.
Meanwhile the Eagles will join the Blue Devils as recipients of our Headquarter Nissan Athletes of the Week.
