SILVER LAKE (KSNT) – Building a street car was Kendall Phelp’s dream since he was sixteen. So after he revived a classic ’39 Chevrolet in 2001 with the help of a friend, Phelps and his wife took the car out on adventures they would never forget.
“Old Chevs never die,” says Phelps. “They only go faster.”
27,000 miles and six years later, Phelps and his wife became the only couple to go to all of the NSRA shows that year. But they didn’t stop there.
“And then we said, “You know what? I bet we can do all 50 states.””
And they did, racking up 94,000 miles. But their trip to Hawaii wasn’t as bad as people think.
“Everyone says, “Well that must cost a lot.” But actually it was cheaper to ship the car than it was to send us,” Phelps said.
94,000 miles later the couple has had the experience of a lifetime.
“We have made lifelong friends,” says Therma Phelps.
