Columbus man arrested on aggravated assault

A Columbus man accused of racing and leaving the scene of an accident is in jail this morning.

William Tarver, 30, was arrested early Saturday morning in Phenix City by the U.S. Marshals.

Officials say his arrest stems from an incident on July 3rd, where police say Tarver was racing another vehicle when he crashed into a BMW on Lawyers Lane.

The 19 year old victim in that wreck remains in critical condition this morning.

Police say Tarver’s child was in his car at the time of the crash. Witnesses tell authorities Tarver grabbed the kid and ran away.

He’s being held in the Russell County jail this morning, where he’s facing aggravated assault and other charges.
