MIDLAND, Ga.-Thursday night, Ted Cruz was in Cleveland for the first Republican debate. Saturday, he will be in Atlanta, then to Newnan and then he will “Cruz” in to Midland. Solid Rock Church is sold out to hear the Texas senator and presidential candidate speak on a variety of topics.
A couple of weeks ago, the Muscogee County GOP learned Cruz was coming to the area, and they needed to find a venue to host him. The pastor of Solid Rock, is interested in Republican politics, he shares some of the same views as Cruz. So, it seemed to be a perfect fit. “He actually offered for us to use his facility for other events, but this was the first time I’ve taken him up on it,” Muscogee County GOP Chairman Rick Allen said. “I’ve asked him several times, but we had three or four choices, but because it had to be done pretty quick, and I ask him and he had a split-second decision to use the facility.”
There will be church security, security from the Cruz campaign and other officers staged around the church for the event. Tim Zeager, the church’s Worship and Creative Arts Pastor said, “we want to make sure that in the event of an issue, that there won’t be an issue.”
Organizers of the event feel this will be a great way to spread Cruz’ message, but it will also benefit the area. “We kind of feel off the map because we’re 45 miles from LaGrange, so we’re really not on the main drag of the interstate,” Allen said. “So I think it is really good to put Columbus on the map.” As for the church, “we want to let our community know that we love them and anything we can do to serve the community it’s our great pleasure,” Zeager said.
The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m., and the event kicks off at 7 p.m.
