PGA tour veteran Scott Piercy won the first ever Barbasol Championship in Opelika on Sunday with a score of -19.
Piercy posted back-to-back 65’s on the weekend to solidify his spot at the top of the leaderboard and win the tournament by three strokes.
Birmingham native Will Wilcox finished alone in second place, shooting -16 for the tournament.
Amateur and Alabama Crimson Tide golfer Robby Shelton tied for third place with two other golfers.
“It was amazing. I played well, that’s all I could ask for. To do this with a sponsor exemption, it’s great. I mean, I’m speechless right now,” Shelton said after his final round.
Former Auburn golfer Blayne Barber enjoyed some home cooking in a course just minutes away from College and Magnolia. Barber tied for tenth place after scoring -12.
Barber says he was impressed with the tournament, especially with it being a new event.
“This is awesome. I was hoping, especially being a first‑time event and getting the community involved, I didn’t know how it would be, but the amount of people that came out and watched every day was just awesome. Very thankful for everyone that came out. A lot of War Eagles and saying “good shot” and stuff, so it was great,” Barber said.
The Barbasol Championship has a four year contract with the PGA Tour.
