Authorities are investigating a case of church vandalism in which they have not yet found a suspect.
The incident happened Monday between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. Associate Pastor Joshua Lilly says that when he left the church at 4 p.m. Monday, the iron gate at the front entrance to Central Baptist Church looked to be in good condition. However, when Lilly returned around 11 p.m. to the church, located in the 8300 block of Whitesville Road, he found that the gate had been extensively damaged. He estimates the damage to be approximately $1,500.
Lilly called police just before 10 a.m. Tuesday to report the damage. After inspecting the damage, authorities could not determine how the fence was damaged or who was responsible for the vandalism. Lilly says there are no cameras on church property.
Police will charge whoever is responsible with criminal property damage in the second degree.
