LaGrange, Ga. – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called to investigate an officer involved shooting in Troup County early Monday morning.
The Troup County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy shot and injured 60-year-old Terry Caldwell after Caldwell reportedly shot an AK47 style pistol at the deputy.
The Sheriff’s Office says at 12:05 AM they received a call from a citizen who reported their neighbor was shooting a gun.
Deputy Stephen D’Angelo says he responded to 3218 Hamilton Road in LaGrange where he located Caldwell sitting in his carport. An initial report says Caldwell fired twice before Deputy D’Angelo fired four times at Caldwell striking him in the elbow and thigh.
Authorities say Caldwell was transported to Grady Hospital where he is being treated for what appear to be non-life threatening injuries. Deputy D’Angelo was not injured during the incident.
The GBI says it will conduct a thorough investigation to determine what occurred during the incident.
