A man is behind bars after an initial traffic stop developed into a more dangerous scenario early Saturday morning.

Columbus Police arrested Artavious White around 2:45 a.m. after they found out that he was driving his 2001 Ford Crown Victoria with a suspended license.

Police revealed that White, 22, gave authorities an improper spelling of his name, as well as a false social security number. When an officer attempted to place White under arrest, police say he refused and started acting aggressively in resisting arrest. White then drove off with the officer’s arm still in his vehicle.

The suspect hit a fence and a mailbox, then proceeded to get out of his car and run away. The officer’s whose arm was caught in the car was finally able to track down White and arrest him on Goodson Road.

White is officially charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, two counts of striking a fixed object and giving false information to an officer.

White was first stopped by authorities around 2:30 a.m. for having a headlight and tag light out. He is scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court Monday morning at 8 a.m.
