Alpharetta police urge caution after fake officer stops teen

Police are warning drivers to use caution after they say a man impersonating an officer tried to get into a teenage girl’s car.

The 16-year-old told investigators the man pulled her over Sunday using flashing blue and red lights. The teen says the man asked her whether he could get into her car. She says she realized he wasn’t driving a squad car and said no. Police say the imposter then asked if she would pull into a wooded area.

Police say the teen noticed the “officer” wasn’t wearing a badge and asked if he was a real officer. She says the man said “Whatever,” and went back to his car.

Police say drivers can call 911 if they feel uneasy when pulling over for an officer.
